My Story
In 2021, I had my son. During this time I was not able to have anyone in the room with me until his birth, this resulted in a huge lack of support and advocacy. After minor complications, my son was born on March 15, 2021 by cesarean.
Shortly after the birthing process, I had struggled with breast feeding. When my son was 3 months old, I developed severe postpartum anxiety which led to postpartum depression. I felt that I was constantly worried. I stopped driving for a year. I stopped being around friends. I lost a big part of who I was. I constantly questioned how it was possible to be so happy and so sad at the same time.
I slowly started to feel like myself again towards my son's 2nd birthday. He is now 3 and I have decided to not only share my birth and postpartum journey, but help others with theirs. During the last 3 years, I have been doing endless research about mental health within the birthing community and how Black women are affected. While motherhood is a beautiful journey, it can also be very hard for those who lack the proper support.
My goal is to be the support that can help create beautiful memories for mothers when looking back on their birth stories.
